Abstract

1357523 Guiding webs MOLINS Ltd 7 June 1971 [5 June 1970] 27357/70 Heading B8R In apparatus for guiding a web 1 being unwound from a reel 2, the reel is supported on a carrier 3 mounted on a shaft 4 which cooperates with a cam 6 such that linear movement of the cam results in axial movement of the shaft to move the reel 2 correspondingly. Movement of the cam 6 is effected by a pneumatic cylinder 10 in response to signals derived from pneumatic sensors 30, 30A monitoring the position of the web 1. Thus axial movement of the reel 2 is automatically controlled to correct for deviations in the movement of the web from a desired path. Mechanical or electro-mechanical arrangements may replace the cylinder 10, and the sensors may be of the photo-electric type.
