Abstract

1437070 Web sensors SIEMENS AG 22 Aug 1974 [31 Aug 1973] 36876/74 Heading B8R [Also in Division G5] A light beam from a lamp 3 is reflected along a path A to a detector 4 by a reflective surface 2 on a reel hub 1 in the absence of tape, or by a reflective tape marker if there are a few turns of tape on the hub. A reflective marker on the outside of a larger roll of tape reflects the light beam along a path B which misses the detector 4. The light beam may be disposed to illuminate only that half of the tape width assigned to a leader marker, so that an end marker is not detected, however short the tape.
