Abstract

1332872 Photo-electric monitoring A B DICK CO 19 July 1971 [20 July 1970] 33818/71 Heading G1A Exposure of the core of a roll of web material as the material is unwound is detected by directing a beam of radiation at the roll and detecting the change in reflected radiation when either a core surface of different reflectivity is exposed or an end mark on the web is detected the arrangement including an arrangement for producing a radiation reference signal with which the reflected radiation signal is compared. The arrangement is described for use in a copying machine in which it is arranged to open the motor circuit and give a warning when the paper runs out.
