Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent choking defect of magnetic heads, by detecting a reader tape, through drawing-out of a tape in the degree that the tape is not in contact with a rotating drum, when a cassette is loaded to a VTR. CONSTITUTION:A detecting means 28 is provided with a VTR to detect a tape 11 or 12 drawn around a tape drawing-out point of a cassette 10, and a detecting means 29 is provided for the VTR to detect the tape 11 or 12 around the tape winding point of the cassette 10. In VTRs of the U standards, the magnetic tape 11 is opaque and the reader tape 12 is transparent, then the detecting means 28 and 29 are constituted with optical detecting means consisting, e.g. of a photointerrupter. Control is made with the detected output and only the magnetic tape 11 is wound around a drum 1.
