Abstract
Part or the whole of an internal-combustion engine piston is made of an alloy of beryllium with copper, nickel, cobalt, or iron, any of which may also contain up to 40 per cent of copper, nickel, aluminium, magnesium, zinc, or tin, or up to 1 per cent of phosphorus, silicon, or carbon. Tempering is effected by rapidly cooling from 700-1200 DEG C. followed by ageing at 250-500 DEG C.
