Abstract
362,116. Electromagnetic interrupters. CHANCE BROS. & CO., Ltd. and SPAINK, J. H. ABBINK-, Lighthouse Works, West Smethwick, Staffordshire. Nov. 4, 1930, No. 33122. [Class 38 (v).] Contacts.-Voltage regulattors and other apparatus of the kind comprising a coil mounted so as to oscillate in a magnetic field, the coil carrying a lever fitted at each end with a contact co-operating with a corresponding fixed contact have the fixed and movable contacts mounted on iron or steel supports arranged to be traversed transversely by a magnetic field such as a stray field from the main relay magnet, repulsive forces thus being produced between the contacts which are thereby prevented from sticking together. As shown in the Figure, the operating coil d is pivotally mounted in the field of the permanent magnet e and is secured to a non-magnetic lever a fitted with contacts b of tungsten or other suitable material, the tungsten contacts being mounted on iron or steel supports h. Similarly fixed contacts c arranged below the contacts b are mounted on magnetic screws g passing through non-magnetic brackets secured to the magnet polepieces. The magnet is arranged to have a relatively large stray field which traverses the iron or steel contact-carrying parts transversely so setting up repulsion between these members. Thus the force required to separate the contacts is reduced and risk of the contacts adhering is eliminated.
