Abstract

361,963. Stud-and-socket fastenings. TRIPP, E. J., Castle Inn Farm, Hanham Green, Hanham, near Bristol. Aug. 28, 1930, No. 25639. [Class 44.] A fastening for attaching doors, panels, cowlings, &c. comprises a cylindrical member 4 secured to the panel &c. 10 to be attached and housing a plunger 15 in which are pivotally mounted a pair of catches 6 normally urged to project outwards through apertures 11 in the wall of member 4, the spring action also serving to retain the head 14 of the plunger normally flush with the flanged face 9 of member 4. Member 4 is inserted in a socket 1 secured to the part 2, 3 to which the panel &c. is to be attached, the catches engaging behind the inner end of the socket, Fig. 1. The catches are released by depressing the plunger 15, Fig. 3, and may be retained withdrawn by rotating the plunger so that the catches are out of register with the apertures 11, the ends of the catches riding into an annular groove 13 in member 4. Outward movement of the catches is limited by shoulders 18 on the catches, and inward movement by abutment of head 14 against a shoulder 12 in member 4. The head 14 has ribs 16 &c. to facilitate rotation by the fingers, screwdriver, &c. An arrangement is described in which, instead of member 4 being secured to panel 10, it is tethered by a short cable so as to be removable separately to a limited distance.
