Abstract
361,425. Vehicle bodies. DEE, C. E., 25, Hillcrest Avenue, Edgware, Middlesex. Aug. 23, 1930, No. 25256. [Classes 103 (iv) and 108 (i).] In a skeleton framework for a carriage structure ribs or arches a of hollow or channel section are formed in one piece by rolling from relatively thin steel and are bolted or riveted to sole bars c, the spacing of the ribs being maintained by longitudinal angle-bars e slotted over the ribs and the rectangular spaces enclosed by the arches and longitudinals are filled in with light metal bracing, the longitudinals, arches and bracings being welded together. In one form, X-shaped bracing means f are pressed out of metal. Panel plates k, Fig. 6, are secured to the skeleton structures by mouldings m and packing blocks o and preferably their upturned edges are engaged by jointing-material n. In a modification the moulding is in two parts m<1>, m<2>, Fig. 7, shaped as shown so that, on tightening the bolts l, the panels k are tensioned. In a further modification wedge-bars are fitted or welded to the edges of the panel plates and the mouldings have inclined surfaces coacting therewith. Sill plates q, Fig. 9, are welded, where necessary, to moulding- bars r bolted to the longitudinals e and house the upper edge of the panel plates k. The bracing means may be formed of a steel strip bent to a V or W formation.
