[A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Dec. 17, 1930.] [Class 96.] A suction box c for papermaking and like machines with rolls a supporting the wire b has a separate channel e, between and along the sealing ledges d, which receives and carries away the water extracted from the web, the air pressure being the same inside and outside of the channel, corrosion of the box c and deposition of pulp &c. being thus minimized. The channel e, of non-corroding material, copper, brass, &c., has openings h which may have inclined upper or lower walls, and through which air passes to the exhaust pipe f, the water passing out through a pipe g or alternatively air and water may pass out through the pipe g.
