Abstract

332,125. Millspaugh, W. H. Sept. 14, 1929. Cylinder paper-machines.-In a paper-machine wherein an open ended vat 6 abuts against the wire 5 on a forming cylinder 1, adjustable plates 7 on the side walls of the vat are slightly divergent in the direction of rotation of the forming cylinder. The plates 7, which are of metal, &c. and which are fitted as facing plates to brackets adjustably fixed by slots and bolts 11, Fig. 2, to the vat bottom and by slots and bolts 13 to vat wall extensions, conform with the curvature of the forming cylinder, and are closely adjacent thereto, leakage of the pulp stock being prevented by fibre in contact with the wire, which fibre by reason of the divergence of the plates 7, is continually replaced by freshly deposited fibre as the wire travels upwards, thereby minimizing the frictional drag of the pulp sheet against the plates 7. The suction box of the forming cylinder has adjustable ends and is in two sections 3, 4, Fig. 1, which may have independently regulated suction if the sheet is to be bonded with others to form multi-ply paper. A rubber strip 15 is fitted to prevent leakage of pulp between the bottom of the vat and the forming cylinder. Specification 278,817 is referred to.
