Abstract

108,340. Mackenzie, J. W., (Strathmore Paper Co.). July 27, 1916. Fancy papers; forming pulp web having thick and thin parts; apparatus for treating with liquids.-A web of paper pulp having prominent and depressed portions is coloured by means of a brush G partly submerged in a colour tank E and co-operating with an adjustable blade H. The colour is sprayed on to an upper couch roll B which delivers it to the pulp web on the wire cloth A. By rolling pressure between the rolls B, C the colour is applied unevenly to the pulp web, mostly to the depressed portions as shown at w, Fig. 7. The pulp web may be made uneven by putting out of action the first suction box L, the wet pulp then being " banked " as at x by the dandy roll D, and passing on as a rippled uneven layer.
