Abstract

450,067. Parchment paper. CHAMPSAUR, L. M. C., 68, Rue Lauriston, Paris. Nov. 19, 1935, No. 32015. Convention date, April 12. [Class 96] Parchmentized artificial leather containing fibres of different natures is made by immersing paper in, e.g. a sulphuric acid, zinc chloride, or sulphocyanate bath under conditions such that the surface layers 1<1>, 1<2>, Figs. 3 and 7, only of the paper are parchmentized, washing, cleaving the paper into two parts each having one absorbent surface, e.g. using rolls on which the cleaved parts are wound. The inner fibres of the paper may be mercerized. Thin webs 3, 4, Fig. 7, may be parchmentized throughout and adhered by pressure of rollers, to a thick, superficiallytreated web 1, immediately after leaving the parchmentizing bath. The absorbent surface may be cemented to cardboard, and the parchmentized surface varnished &c. The material may be rendered flexible, smoothed, printed, grained, stamped, or hammered.
