Abstract
360,479. Valve-discharge water-waste preventers. GREENLAND, H. F. A., Rowan Cottage, Aldenham Avenue, Radlett, Hertfordshire. Aug. 7, 1930, No. 23718. [Class 26.] In a flushing system, each closet is provided with a pair of tanks 3, 4, Fig. 1, having vent pipes 6, 7, which extend upwardly beyond the water level in the cistern 1, from which water is supplied alternately to the tanks through a distributing valve 9 which may be operated to open one tank to the cistern and the other to the flushing pipe 13. The pipes 6, 7 may be of small diameter and their positions in their respective tanks may be varied to compensate for the lengths of piping associated with closets at different levels, thus ensuring the delivery of a constant predetermined volume of water at every flush. The distributing valve, Fig. 3, comprises a casing 14 communicating with the tanks 3, 4 through unions 15, 16, and pipes 11, 12, and with the cistern 1 through a union 17 and pipe 8. A rotary disc 20, disposed between packing glands 18, 19, is provided with passages 21, 22 by means of which one of the tanks may be opened to a conical member 28 communicating with the flush pipe 13, while the other is filled by means of a U-shaped radial port 23, one arm of which is always in communication with the cistern 1. The member 28 is flanged at 29 and a threaded member 30 can be rotated to secure the disc 20 in position, a packing ring 31 and slots 33 being provided.
