Abstract

359,487. Golf clubs. MAVIS MACHINE CORPORATION, 50, Broadway, New York, U.S.A. July 18, 1930, No. 21768. Convention date, Nov. 16, 1929. [Class 132 (ii).] The width of the striking face of a lofted golf club as viewed in perspective by the player appears to be of equal width at equal distances from and on opposite sides of the vertical centre line. In the embodiment described the top and sole lines 5, 6, Fig. 1, diverge slightly towards the toe 7 the angle of divergence 1 being decreased for clubs of increased loft, these lines thus appearing parallel .to a player addressing the ball. The " sweet spot," substantially the centre of gravity of the club, is arranged to coincide with the geometric centre of the club face by cutting away metal at 8 and making the club thicker at the toe 7 and the sole 6. The striking face may be line scored or punch marked, the lines, Fig. 1, slightly diverging so as to appear parallel to the lines 5, 6. The top line may be curved as in Fig. 4, but the club is made to appear symmetrical about its vertical centre line, the toe being made slightly wider than the heel for this purpose.
