Abstract

1294375 Golf club head K SOLHEIM 25 March 1970 [23 May 1969] 14452/70 Heading A6D The curvature of the sole of a golf club head 16, measured from a line 13 perpendicular to the leading edge 26 beneath the sweet spot towards the heel, increases from the front to the rear of the club is, as the lie of the club is decreased, the upper edge of the face opens, thus maintaining a line tangential to a ball 21 and perpendicular to the face pointing in a constant direction. The toe of the sole may be carved in a like manner with the curvature increasing from the rear to the front of the head. A weight may be placed in the trailing edge of the head behind the sweet spot and another placed in the toe near the leading edge (25 and 28, Fig. 5). The rear portion of the head may be tapered down towards the sole and the distance between the trailing edge and a plane through the axis of the hosel 30 parallel to the leading edge 26 is at least three times the distance between the leading edge and said plane. The face of the head may be convexly curved about both an axis behind the sweet spot and parallel to the shaft 31 and an axis orthogonal thereto.
