Abstract

20,614. Brewster, F. W. Sept. 17. Golf.-To facilitate the manufacture of golf clubs, such as are described in Specification No. 9514, A.D. 1897, and to ensure a more exact formation and weighting, they are formed partly of an aluminium alloy, preferably aluminium copper or zinc, and partly of a light material, such as compressed wood-pulp, papier-mÔchÚ, leather, or preferably wood. As shown in Figs. 3 and 4, a driver is formed of an alloy part a which is cast or formed with a mortice and a hole a<2> for the reception of the shaft, a hole a<3> for the reception of a wooden block b, and a hole a' for a wooden block b<1>. The block b is preferably formed as two complementary wedges ; when in position in the hole a<3>, a hole is bored in it in continuation of the hole a<2>, and the shaft is fixed by a pin. The block b<1> is preferably made of jarrah, oak, ash, &c., and it is forced in with its grain in the striking direction. It may be kept in place by cement. The invention is also applicable to clubs other than drivers, and the block b<1> is dispensed with in some cases.
