Abstract

357,979. Fluid friction brakes. WARREN, R., 9, Fauconberg Road, Sutton Court, Chiswick, London. June 30, 1930, No. 19800. [Class 103 (i).] A pump or engine adaptable for use as a brake or variable speed power transmitter is provided with cylindrical oscillatable plugs G, Fig. 2, spaced apart in the rotor C and bored to receive plungers E, E<1>, E<2> mounted on a crank or eccentric pin D. The rotor may have a shrouding ring P, Fis. 4, fluid entering through passages K, M, N and discharging through a passage Q. A power transmitter may comprise a pump and motor each of the above construction, and be controlled by a valve or by varying the stroke or position of the crank or eccentric pin. Another form of power transmitter is shown in Fig. 6, and is controlled by an axially slidable sleeve T ; it may be combined with epicyclic gearing and a positive clutch.
