Abstract
357,839. Combing-machines. HETHERINGTON & SONS, Ltd., J. and HEMSLEY, L., Vulcan Works, Pollard Street, Manchester. Nov. 12, 1930, No. 34007. Addition to 343,663. [Class 120 (i).] The combing-machine of the parent Specification is modified by the substitution of a top comb A for the member 27 on the upper nipper 5 by which the tuft was forced into the teeth 10 of the intersector comb 9, the top comb A coacting with the teeth 10 to assist the penetration of the tuft. The comb A is mounted on a frame B having an arm C supporting a bowl D which runs on a cam track E the upper nipper being supported by a bowl F on a second cam track G, the tracks E, G being formed on a lever H pivoted at I on the framing J. The top comb A and upper nipper 5 are pivoted on a common pivot, not shown. The intersector comb 9, 10 is shown in its highest position and the top comb A and nipper 5 on the point of being lowered together with the cam tracks E, G. The teeth of the comb A may meet the ends of the teeth 10. Alternatively the teeth may pass close to each other. When the comb A is lifted, it and the nipper 4, 5 move to the right. The comb A follows the track E while the upper nipper 5 follows the track G moving downwardly relative to the comb A, the plate K serving as a scraper. The comb needles may be from fifteen to twenty-one to the inch.
