Abstract
356,866. Springs. RINGFEDER, GES. and HELD, T., Schutzerstrasse, both in Uerdingen, Niederrhein, Germany. July 11, 1930, No. 21075. Drawings to Specification. [Class 108 (iii).] In springs subjected to bending, differences between the tensile and compressive skin stresses are obtained by using cross sections such that the distances of the outermost tensioned and compressed fibres respectively from the neutral axis lie between the ratios 1:1À3 and 1:1À7. Alternatively the spring is treated in such a manner that the part under tension is tougher than the part under compression, the distances of the outermost tensioned and compressed fibres from the neutral axis being approximately the same. In a third method the spring comprises two different materials joined by rolling, welding or the like along the neutral axis.
