348,366. Wooden bars &c. GESSNER, M., 21, Kaiserstrasse, Biebrich-on-Rhine, Germany. May 6, 1930, No. 13891. [Class 145 (ii).] Beams, spars and the like for use in structures comprise a solid or hollow core a of wood, paper, cardboard or other fibrous material in one or more pieces suitably stayed together and enclosed in a sheetmetal casing b, b<1>, preferably of copper, wrapped about the core a with the meeting edges seamed together by rolling, as at e, so as closely to unite the core and casing. Additional insertions of metal, e.g. of iron d<1>, may be placed between the core and casing to increase the resistance to tensile strain.
