Abstract
370,800. Laminated springs. KRUPP AKT.-GES., F., Essen, Germany. Aug. 28, 1931, No. 24286. Convention date, Nov. 28, 1930. [Class 108 (iii).] The leaves of laminated springs are formed with one or more longitudinal channels or recesses in such a manner that the surface lamina subjected to tension lies closer to the neutral axis than the surface lamina subjected to compression while the base of each channel lies in or in close proximity to the neutral axis. Figs. 1 and 2 show cross sections through a leaf initially of rectangular form, but having recesses for channels on the compression side extending down to or near the neutral axis x-x whereby the maximum compressive skin stress is greater than the tensile skin stress, the two being in the ratio h<2>/h<1>. The tensile side of the leaf may be formed with slight projections corresponding to the channels, so as to prevent relative lateral movement of the leaves in a complete spring.
