Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce weight by a method wherein a second spring consisting of resin-bonded composite material is laid along and combined with a first leaf spring. CONSTITUTION:Both ends of a first leaf spring 1 consisting of a belt-shaped spring steel plate are curled to form round fitting portions. A composite spring 3 consisting of epoxy resin-bonded laminated layers of fibrous material having a high tensile strength per unit cross-sectional area is laid along and combined with the spring 1. An auxiliary leaf spring 4 is inserted between the springs 1 and 3 as required. The thus constituted spring satisfies all basic requisites for spring and has a reduced weight, about a half of that of a conventional spring.
