Abstract
356,079. Coke ovens.STILL, C., Recklinghausen, Westphalia, Germany. Jan. 9, 1931, No. 813. Convention date, Jan. 14, 1930. [Classes 51 (ii) and 55 (i).] Distillates are drawn off by suction from the charge in coke ovens by forming ducts in the coal, and bringing tubes secured in the oven roof into sufficiently gastight connection with the ducts. After the oven has been charged, iron rods 24 are pushed into the coal 10, forming ducts 23 into which tubes 21 are jammed, these tubes being inserted through sleeves 18, 19 formed with boxes 12, each tube having a bell 22 which dips into a water seal. The rods 24 may be left in the coal until it becomes sufficiently coherent to ensure the durability of the ducts. The rods may be pushed through the tubes 21 after these have been driven into the coal, or, a pressed coal cake, with holes already formed to register with the tubes 21, may be charged into the oven. After coking, the tubes are withdrawn upwardly. Distillates may be withdrawn from the gas space 20 through the usual outlets 6 leading by extension pipes 7 to the main 8, and also by suction through the tubes 21, boxes 12, conduit 15, and main 9, a pipe 17 drawing off the condensates, the oven may, however, be entirely filled with coal, the gas collecting space being omitted.
