Abstract
355,468. Optical systems. DOUGLASS, L. F., Valparaiso Avenue, Menlo Park, California, U.S.A. July 22, 1930, No. 22068. [Class 97 (i).] Anamorphotic systems.-A system to be used with a camera for producing distorted pictures consists of a pair of oppositely-directed prisms arranged at an angle to each other, each prism being compound and being partially corrected for achromatism. In the form shown in the Figure, each of the prisms 1, 2, having an apex angle of 20‹ consists of a crown glass portion having an apex angle of 35‹ and a flint glass portion having an apex angle of 15‹. The exit face 17 of the prism 2 is inclined at about 60‹ to the entrance face 16 of the prism 1. The camera lens is shown at 14. There may be arranged in front of the prism system a pair of lenses of approximately equal but opposite powers and separated by an air space, these lenses being stated to reduce the dispersion of the rays passing through the prism system. A similar prism system may be used in an apparatus for projecting from the distorted pictures obtained in the camera so as to obtain undistorted projected images.
