Abstract
The auto-oxidation of fats, fatty oils, or soaps is prevented by incorporating therein a small amount of a hydroxylated diaryl compound in which the aryl residues are directly linked together. Palm or coco nut oil, swine fat, or olive castile soap is mixed with 0,1 per cent of o- or p-hydroxy diphenyl, 4:4<1> dihydroxy diphenyl, b -p-hydroxy phenyl-naphthalene, or 3:3<1>-dihydroxy dinaphthyl. Similar compounds containing a plurality of hydroxy groups, or alkyl groups may be used. Specifications 181,365, [Class 49, Food &c.], 208,189, 241,734, 254,303, 260,108, [all in Class 91, Oils &c.], 308,405, [Class 49, Food &c.], and 332,764, [Class 91, Oils &c.], and U.S. Specification 1,672,657 are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect 91 (3) (a) describes also the preservation of lard and butter. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.ALSO:Fats and fatty oils are preserved by incorporating therein a small amount of a hydroxylated diaryl compound in which the aryl residues are directly linked together. Palm or coconut oil, or swinefat, is mixed with 0,1 per cent of o- or p-hydroxy diphenyl, 4:41 dihydroxy diphenyl, b p-hydroxy phenyl naphthalene, or 3 : 31 dihydroxy dinaphthyl. Similar compounds containing a plurality of hydroxy groups, or alkyl groups may be used. Specifications 181,365, 208,189, [both in Class 49, Food &c.], 241,734, [Class 91, Oils &c.], 254,303, 260,108, 308,405, [all in Class 49, Food &c.], and 332,764, [Class 91, Oils &c.], and U.S.A.
