Abstract
354,463. Valves and cocks; components. BRINDLEY, J. W., 78, Kerk Street, Johannesburg. South Africa. June 10, 1930, No. 17807. [Class 135.] Plug cocks ; lift valves; casing; seats.-A valve or cock comprises a casing consisting of an ordinary T-piece or four-way piece and a hollow bush-like valve-seating member which is secured in the casing solely by a tight driving fit. For a rotary plug cock the axis of the seating bush 26, Fig. 4, may coincide with that of the rotary plug 28, or it may be at rightangles thereto. The inlet and outlet passages 22, 23 may taper towards the seating. In a lift valve arrangement the branch 53, Fig. 6, in which the seating 55 is disposed is made longer than the other branch 54 ; this valve is shown as screw-actuated. A camactuated arrangement is also shown in which the valve is lifted by means of inclined surfaces at the top of the valve housing engaged by projections on the spindle-rotating means. These inclined surfaces may be formed with a series of shallow depressions 94, Fig. 10, and the spindle-rotating means 96 with projections 95 which are adapted to engage the depressions so as to hold the valve open at any of several adjusted positions, the valve where turned and released being closed by an internal spring.
