Abstract
354,381. Aeroplane stalling indicators. EVANS, G. A., 14, Strachan's Buildings, Manica Road, Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia. May 9, 1930, No. 14366. [Class 4.] To indicate to the pilot of an areoplane when his machine is in or approaching a stalled condition, a flap or plate is mounted on the upper part of a wing where it is maintained in a raised position by the suction above the wing during normal flight but is moved by gravity or a spring when the suction breaks down to complete an electric circuit to warn the pilot, for example by lighting a lamp on the control stick. A plate 1 mounted on a vertically moving spindle 2 in a recess formed near the trailing edge of the wing is normally maintained substantially flush with the surface, but during a stall it is moved by a spring 5 to complete a circuit through contacts 6, 7. Alternatively a plate hinged at its forward or rear edge may be used. Means for draining rain from the recess may be provided or the plate may be connected to a flexible diaphragm secured to the edges of the recess to prevent access of moisture.
