Abstract

354,143. Self-levelling ships' compartments. BROWN, T. A., Bankley Bungalow, Yarm Road, Stockton-on-Tees. Dec. 1, 1930, No. 36124. ['Class 113 (i).] Ships' compartments, decks, and deckhouses mounted on gimbal bearings for self-levelling purposes are provided with springs or weights for controlling or damping the oscillations of the compartments. The compartment C is journalled at A in a ring B which in turn is journalled at A<1> to the main structure of the ship. The compartment is controlled by springs G or by weights F carried by rods passed over pulleys E. In another form the compartment is suspended from beam brackets. The gimbals are shaped to their radius to keep the joints as watertight as possible.
