400,423. Flying-boats. DORNIER METALLBAUTEN GES., and DORNIER, C., Friedrichshafen, Lake Constance, Germany. Oct. 31, 1932, No. 30599. Convention date, Dec. 21, 1931. [Class 113 (ii).] The hulls of flying- boats are provided with lateral stabilizing floats d, e which by means of the rope gear shown may be withdrawn and housed within the body of the hull when in flight. Fig. 1 shows a form in which the floats are moved in a rectilineal path and, with this arrangement, an increased span can be given to the floats by providing further telescopic members which are supported by a linkage pivoted to beams mounted on the fuselage. In the form shown in Fig. 6, the floats are pivoted to turn about the axles l, l<1>, the fixed struts o being turned at p<1> when the floats are extended. In developments of this arrangement, the floats may be carried by levers which swing round points on either side of the hull, the floats being secured in the outward position by locking-levers. This form is further developed and each hinged float carries a hinged extension the combined floats being in the same straight line when extended. A form is also described in which the hinged floats and wheel are supported by struts sliding in the fuselage carry telescopic extensions.
