354,053. Roller underclearers for spinning-frames. FIXE COTTON SPINNERS & DOUBLERS ASSOCIATION, Ltd., and HINDLEY, J., St. James' Square, Manchester. Aug. 2,1930, No. 23341. [Class 120 (ii).] An underclearer for the bottom drawing-rollers of mules, ring frames and flyer frames comprises a series of discs of wool or other material of alternately large and small diameters threaded on to a shaft and arranged just below the roller to be cleared. The clearer is formed of discs a<1>, a<2>, Fig. 1, threaded on to the shaft A<1>, the end discs a<3> being preferably slightly wider than the others. The holes in the centre of the discs are made slightly smaller in diameter than the rod A<1> so that the discs grip the shaft. The clearer is rotated in the reverse direction to the roller or rollers being cleared, and preferably at a slightly greater surface speed, there being a small gap, e.g. one sixteenth of an inch, between the surfaces of the clearer and roller. Various forms of mounting the clearers are described. For a mule one large diameter clearer is applied to the two front bottom rollers, or one large diameter clearer is applied to the front bottom roller and a small diameter clearer to the two back bottom rollers. For the rollers of a ring spinning frame having a four-roller system of high drafting, three clearers may be used, one for the bottom front roller, one for the two middle bottom rollers, and one for the back bottom roller. For a flyer frame in which the roller stand has a variable setting, a large diameter clearer A, Fig. 11, is applied to the front bottom roller C<1>, and a small diameter clearer to the bottom middle and back rollers C<2>, C<3>, the smaller clearer being supported on two inclined faces b<1>, b<2>, so that as the rollers are moved together or apart the clearer will always remain midway between them.
