Abstract
Emulsions of oils for use in treating leather or textiles are prepared by the use as emulsifying agents of glue or glue degraded with acid or enzymes, in conjunction with one or more carbohydrates such as gum tragacanth or starch. For example the following proportions may be employed--(1) water 78 parts, oil 20 parts, glue and gum tragacanth 1 part each; (2) water 67 parts, oil 30 parts, gum tragacanth 1,5 parts, glue 1,5 parts or degraded glue 2 parts. The first emulsion may be employed when diluted to 10 per cent strength to treat an equal quantity of chrome leather. 3 parts of the second emulsion are added with 1 part of glycerine to 15 parts of starch pasted with 100 parts of water to form a size for warp yarns.ALSO:Emulsions of oils for use in sizing textiles are prepared by the use as emulsifying agents of glue or glue degraded with acid or enzymes, in conjunction with one or more carbohydrates such as gum tragacanth or starch. For example the following proportions may be employed-water 67 parts, oil 30 parts, gum tragacanth 1,5 parts, glue 1,5 parts or degraded glue 2 parts. 3 parts of the above emulsion are added with 1 part of glycerine to 15 parts of starch pasted with 100 parts of water to form a size for warp yarns.
