[Class 38 (v).] A multi - circuit switch has fixed contacts consisting of a number of strips of metal a1 .. a28 of graduated lengths embedded in a strip b of insulating material, and connected to the individual circuits. The movable contact comprises a bath d of mercury caused to reciprocate between guides e1, e2 by means of a rod h and a motor-driven cam k to close circuits successively. An interrupter arm l<1> controlling contacts o, p, in series with the mercury bath and associated contacts, is operated by the cam k which rotates in an anticlockwise direction to break the circuit suddenly at o, p before the contacts al .. a28 are removed from the mercury. In a modification, the fixed contact-member comprises a number of strips of graduated length embedded edge-wise throughout part of their width in a strip of insulating material, and the reciprocating-member consists of a slotted spring plate supported by a straight bar.
