Abstract
276,034. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Hewlett, E. M.). Aug. 16, 1926, [Convention date]. High-potential switches; magnetic blow-outs. -A high-potential air-break switch comprises a movable switch arm 11 pivoted to a support 13 and adapted to engage a fixed contact 15 connected to the support 13 by an insulator 20, an arcing member 22 mounted between insulators 21, 23 and adapted to receive the arc when the arm 11 opens, and an air-core magnetic blowout coil 25 which is included in circuit with the arc as soon as the latter forms. In the arrangement shown, the contact 15 is connected to the line conductor L1 by a conductor 24 and the coil 25 is connected between the conductor 24 and the member 22. The switch is arranged in series with a similar switch connected to the line conductor L2 and the two switches are operated simultaneously by the operating members 17, 18 through linkage mechanism 19. In a modification, the lines L1, L2 are connected to each other by means of two switch arms in parallel.
