Abstract
353,458. Rotary drying- apparatus. HODGSON, C. G. and MILLARS' MACHINERY CO., Ltd., Pinners' Hall, Gt. Winchester Street, London. April 23, 1930, No. 12565. [Class 34 (ii).] A drier for road-making &c. materials comprises a rotary drum 3 having a liquid-fuel combustion chamber 7 adjacent the feed shoot 6 and a suction fan communicating with the delivery chamber 4 at the end opposite the feed end, air additional to that entering through the combustion chamber being admitted to the drum through ports adjacent the inlet end. The drum may be surrounded by an outer casing 13 rotating with it, and the additional air may be drawn through openings 20 in the outer casing, controllable by a sleeve 21, and through the jacket space to an annular opening 12 around the end of the combustion chamber. The jacket space serves partly as insulation and partly as a pre-heater for the additional air. The opening 12 may be controlled by valves, or be replaced by shielded openings in the drum wall. Baffles 10 may be fitted across the drum. In a modification, the outer casing is omitted and the air is admitted through a series of openings in the feed end wall controlled by sliding doors with bolt and slot adjustment.
