Abstract

521,990. Tar macadam plant. LEECH, L. A., and MILLARS' MACHINERY CO., Ltd. Nov. 30, 1938, No. 34934. [Class 107] A machine for heating, drying, or mixing batches of road making materials comprises a rotary drum with inlet and discharge apertures at its ends, heating means adjacent the inlet aperture, and draught inducing means connected to the discharge aperture to provide a flow of gases through the drum in the same direction as the feed of material. The arrangement is suitable for alternate high and low temperature drying of road aggregate. The invention is shown applied to a machine as described in Specification 435,951, [Group II]. The material is supplied to the end 6 of a rotary drum 3 having lifting vanes 24 and an outlet 10 fitted with a discharge chute 9 operated by links 12: The chute is surrounded by a casing 13 having a weighted outlet 16 for the material and a lateral conduit (not shown) fitted with a fan for driving air heated by an oil furnace 7 through the inlet 6 and over the material in the drum. Opposite the lateral conduit is an adjustable inlet 23 for air which can be drawn direct from the atmosphere as well as through the drum.
