Abstract
353,308. Pasting signatures. POLLAK, J. E., 20, Holborn, London.- (Brehmer, Geb. ; Plagwitz, Leipsic, Germany.) Sept. 8, 1930, No. 26795. [Class 16.] A signature stitching machine comprises means for uniting by paste the first and last pairs of signatures of a book. A paster bar 100 is arranged to take paste from a roller 99 and apply it to the fold of the second and last signatures. The roller is rotated intermittently by a ratchet-and-pawl, and is oscillated about a pivot 102, to apply paste to the bar 100 at the appropriate times, by a cam on the shaft 11, lever 107, and links 108, 109. The bar 100 is oscillated from inoperative position to that shown by a cam on the shaft 11 acting through a lever 110 and links 112, 113, 115. Operation of the paster bar only at the appropriate times is ensured by the provision of a counting mechanism comprising a notched disc 88a and a locking lever 89a. The latter locks the lever 110 against operation except when a lug 90a on the lever 89a enters a notch in the disc, which is intermittently rotated.
