Abstract
172,156. Rogers, T. W., (Krupp Akt.-Ges., F.). Sept. 16, 1920. Delivery of stamps cut from strips.-Comprises a coin-freed machine which affixes a stamp to a letter when one is inserted in the machine, and delivers a dry stamp when a letter is not inserted. A letter when inserted lies upon a slide W beneath the affixing-plunger h<1>, and when the driving-shaft B is freed by the insertion of a coin, a cam c' upon it operates the plunger through a link E and a lever F, a stamp is detached by grippers from a roll a<5>, a pin g<5> on the plunger operates a lever K which passes a damping-roller K<2> across the adhesive surface of the stamp, and the plunger affixes the stamp to the letter. The slide W is notched as shown in Fig. 3 so that the fingers of an oscillating feeler N<2> can pass it, but when a letter is placed on the slide it obstructs the feeler, which is rocked by a cam c<2> on the shaft B through a lever R and a tension spring q<1>. When a letter is not inserted and the machine is freed, the feeler passes the slide W and a link M connected to it thrusts the damping-roller out of the path of the descending stamp, and a, toothed sector T also connected to the feeler operates gearing V which removes the slide W also from the path of the stamp. A shoot a<11>, which may be raised to meet the stamp, effects its delivery.
