Abstract
472,311. Feeding webs. MASSEY, O. March 20, 1936, No. 18718 /37. Divided out of 471,984. [Class 100 (i)] A machine for dispensing lengths of sealing tape .from a roll comprises an oscillatory operating lever, several length-determining devices consisting of independently adjustable stops for contact with the lever, and means on the lever for selectively engaging any one of the stops, the engagement of the stops being dependent on the setting of the means on the operating lever. The operating lever 1, Fig. 1, is loose on a shaft and actuates a toothed wheel 3 by means of a pawl 4 and is returned by a spring 6 against one or other of a series of stop pins 8. A front stop 25 for the lever is adapted to disengage the pawl 4. The wheel 3 is connected to the feed means for the tape by gearing 5. The stop pins 8 are carried by individual springy arms 7, loose on the shaft 2 and may be set in any of a number of recesses 9, Fig. 4, in the rim 11 of a casing 10 secured to the machine frame, and graduated to show the corresponding length of feed. The pins 8 increase in length in the direction of the return stroke of the lever 1, and are selectively engaged by the lever 1, by means of a pin 16, mounted on a slidable and rotatable shaft 17 in the lever 1. The pin 16 moves in a slot 20 with two or more offsets, into any of which it may be set by means of a knob 19 on the shaft 17, so that it passes by all the pins 8 until it reaches the desired one.
