JACOB M. COHN, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
COMBINED PAY-ENVELOP, TIME-CAE, AND RECEIPT.
pplication led February 8, 1915.
V/o aU H'wm it ymay concern Be it known that l. .lacon M. COHN, a citizen of the lfnitcd States. and a resident of (,hicago, in the county of Cook and State of illinois, have invented: certain new and useful improvements in Combined Pay-Envelops, 'lime-Cards. and Receipts; and I do herelJ-jvi declare that the following is a full, clear. and exact description thereof. reference being had to the acconipanving drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon. which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to novel combined time card. pay envelop and a time recordand receipt card adapted for use h v time keepers and cashiers in etahlishments which cixiilov a large number of operatives to facihtate the work of keeping the time of the employees where time clocks are employed for keeping time, preparingy the pay envelope on pay da. and to facilitate the handlingr of receipts signed h v the en ,..loyees for wages. received and :dem the handling ot wage and `time records for each pa, v period. which records factory inspectors usually require to he kept at hand or Jinspection.
Among the objects of the invention is to provide a device of this character which Will reduce the nilmher of separate operations required in making up the time. preparing the pav envelope and the receipt and record sheets. and which will. therefore, effect a material saving in time in the execution of such work. and which will also reduce the handling in such work. and reduce the exv pense ot' producing the device.
The invention consists in the matters hereinafter set forth and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
.ln the rlran'ings-Figure 1 is the record face view of a combined time card. pay envelop and record and receipt sheet, with the combined record and receipt card or sheetextcnded in the plane of the panel which receives the detail time record. Fig. i! is the reverse face View thereof. Fig. 3 is a rear face vien', broken away. of a modified form ot' envelop. f
The envelop or inclosure l() to receive the wage money ma).vv he in itself made of any preferred construction. As shown it comprises a main body panel ll, side flaps l2. l?. which are folded inwardly over the body panel, and upper and lower end flaps 14, l5,

name of the employee. and also the pay4 period terminal date. The middle section l? is cohlmnated to receire the detail time record for each dav hoth for morning. noon. night and extra" or overtime. and the lower section JU is columnated to receive the record ot the total hours pid. in hv the emplovee. the rate per hour and the total Wages.
The sheet or flap lo constitutes a comhined record and receipt card and is ruled to receive the total hours worked and the total. wage. and also bears a form of receipt and the name of the emplcoer. and is adapted to receive the receiptintf signature of the employee and the pay period terminal date.
lt will he noted that the envelop. including; the record sheet or panel l0, and the comhined record and receipt sheet 1G are parte` 'of an integral Sheet. It will also be noted that the data is printed on the same side oi the constituent sheet. so that the (levice ma)v he printed at one impression of a single torni. lt vill furthermore he noted that the form nr the comhincal total record and receipt sof-ct or flap 16 hears such relation to the detail and total 'record of the time card panel l() that the necessary'r data ma)v he entered on said sheet 1G While the device occupiesI the same position as when the time shown on the detail record is totaledand the wage computed and entered on :.-aid time card Vsheet. This arrangement enahlcs the work of transferring the total rec` ord from the time card to the record and receipt sheet to he effected in a minimum time and vvith a minimum likelihood of error in the transfer. inasmuch as it avoids the neces itjf of turning the device in makinar a transfer or selecting another device on which the total record is to he kept.
ln the use of the device the clock number and employees name are entered thereon and it is placed 'iii the aguil-'time clock rack L at the beginnin offthe period as, for in- .i stance, on Mon ay morning before the arf rival of the ein lo ees in the manner of an ordinary `time c oc card, Before the device l-is racked vthe closing flap and the integral .sheet 16 will be preferably inserted into 'the mouth of the envelo terfere with its vusual y card. During the week the employee inserts the device in the clock at the morning, noon and night 'and extra hours to make up the detail-time record in the usual manner of an ordinary time card. 'At the end ofthe pay period as, for instance, Iafter the noon hour on- Saturday the time keeperA collects the devices and totalsthe hours from the detail time record and inserts the total regular -and; extra or over-time hours in the proper total spaces ofthe section 2O vof the time card. He also venters the rate for regular and over-time in itheA Arate spaces and computes the regular andA overtime wage and enters the total in the wage column of said section 20. Thereafter' and without changing the osition' of the device, the total hours lan wages are entered on the combined 'record and receipt sheet 16. If desired, the sheet 16 may be ruled to show both re lar and. over-time hours and the wages t erefor'; After: the timeke'eper has completed the-:computation of the wage and the ent ofthe total data i-n the proper spaces, j e device 4is turned in to the cashier who lacesfithe money, shown by the total recorfto'be-due, in the :envelop and seals the iipfl.' In places where a largev number of operatives. are employed, the combined record and recei t sheets 16 may be detached fromthe aste closing flaps 15 and said record an receipt sheets are distributed to the-various foremen to be by'them passed out to the employees so that the'receipts may be signedv before the envelops l'are disf tributed thus saving time' inl the distribution of the pay envelo s. When the. envelops are distributed, the s eets 16 are turned 1n y to the cashier b the employees. Said sheets thus constitute oth a receipt for the cashier to` account for money paid out and a record of the hours of work for the inspection of an'v inspector. y
Heretofore it has been a common practice in keeping time and'computing Wages and paying oil' employees to use three separate devices, to wit, the time card on which the detail timerecord is produced during the pa period, alseparate envelop for the money an a separate employees receipt. In using these devices it has been customary for the timekeeper, after gathering up the 'time cards and totaling the hours and entering the wage, to enter the name of the employee and the total hoiirs yand wage on the pay envelops and thereafter to prepare the relso as not to innotion asa time vice I may carbonizo the inner side of the ceipts to be signed and turned in by the emlployees kon receivingA the pay envelops. In this system it has been customary to retain 'the time card as a matter of timerecord for state or other authxn'ized'inspectors andthe cashier retains the receipt to account for money paid out.
The system of making upA the time and paying employees by the use of my device is .greatly simplified as compared with the prior system inasmuch as the timekeeper is onlyI required to handle .a single or `integral device, thus avoiding liabilit of 'confusing separate devices andalso saving time in the operation of making up the time and preparing the envelops for the cashier. Moreover, the system of keeping records and receipts is simplified inasmuch as the single sheet 16 constitutes a full receipt and the only record uired to be kept.
n the event' that a certain user may also find it desirable, in accordance with an 4al-4 ready established system, to retain the detail time record, this lmay be effected by using the device illustrated in Fig. 3; In this depanel 10 to roduce a carbon surface 21 and insert into t e envelop a thin card 22 which bears on its face next to thecarbon surface a form similar to the form on the outer face of the panel 10. Thus the same im ression of the time marking elementsof t e time clock produces an original anda carbon record o 'the detail time sheet.
l I claim as my invention 1. A combined pay envelop, time card and record and receipt member made of a single sheet of-paper or like material, said sheet lhaving a paneland side and end fiaps to consti-tute the inclosing envelop, said panel toreceive in an out records or morning, noon and extra time. from the printing members of a time clock and the record and receipt member extendin from one of the flaps'and divided there rom by aweakened line and being provided with a space to receive the total hours and total Wage and with a space toreceive the receipt of the payee, said record and receipt member be- 1ng printed on the same side of the constituent sheet as the time card.
2. A combined pay envelop, time card and record' and receipt member made of a single sheet of paper or like material, said sheet having a front anel and side and end flaps to constitute t e -inclosing envelop, said panel being provided with a space to receive the'name. of the payee, the number ofthe time clock and datarela-tive to the pay period vand provided therebelow withva time card form to receive a detail time record from, theirecordiig ,and printing elements of a time clock and below said time card form with a space'to receive the total hours 135' and ota Wagey all with vay maar@ ami `eep member amending lom one said flaps and d -hara rpm by a weakened line, and having a space 'to receive 'h k'satal hours am? #com Wage and he epf of payee, sa record. and receipt member b@ ing so arranged relatively is@ heme @mi space .thai @the entire device may be pnid by a, sge mpssw. of one i'vivrm, and wb he recm' amd receipt memca h som
