Abstract

351,565. Silencers ; spray carburetters. SMITH, F., of Smith &.Co., Huddersfield Road, Elland, Yorkshire. March 29, 1930, No. 10056. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (iii).] The air supply to a carburetter is silenced by felt, fibrous or like material 4 secured within a plate or member 2 located adjacent the air inlet. The silencing element may be mounted (1) in front of an air filter secured to the carburetter air inlet pipe, (2) around an air filter, (3) in front of or around the air inlet pipe itself, or (4) within or around an air strangler on the inlet pipe. In the construction shown in Fig. 12, the silencing element is adjustably mounted in front of air filter A and serves to control the air supply. Axial movement of the element on a supporting pin 10 is controlled from the dashboard of a vehicle.. According to the construction shown in Fig. 6, the silencing element, in addition to facing the air inlet of a filter A, partly surrounds the filter. As shown in Fig. 7, the silencer 2, 4 is cylindrical in form and surrounds a filter A ; perforations along its length permit the entry of air to the inlet pipe B. Other arrangements of the silencing element are described in the Specification.
