Abstract
351,230. Snap - action switches. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London, and CLARK, F., of General Electric Co., Stoke, Coventry. June 12, 1930, No. 18034. [Class 38 (v).] In an electric switch of the kind comprising one or more spring contacts adapted to be operated by displacement of a ball from a countersunk seat in a rotatable shaft, movement of the ball effects movement of a stem in a hollow guide to effect operation of the contacts. Insulating blocks 7, 8 carrying contact springs 12, 10 are mounted on a base 6 through which passes a screwed sleeve 13 held in place by a nut 14. Sliding in the sleeve 13 is a pin carrying a disc 21 and an insulating disc 22. A coiled spring inside the sleeve forces the pin and the discs 21, 22 downwards against a ball 17 which is partly inside the sleeve. The ball 17 rests against an operating spindle 2 having bearings at 3 and provided with a large recess 23 and a small recess 24 diametrically opposite each other. When the ball 17 rests in the large recess 23 the contactpoints 13 are allowed to separate. On rotating the shaft until the ball 17 enters the small recess 24, the spring 12 is moved upwards to close the circuit. A number of such switches may be mounted for operation by a common spindle.
