Abstract
351,172. Refuelling aircraft. LINDE. QUIST, S., 8, Landhausstrasse, Wilmersdorf, Berlin. May 6, 1930, No. 13948. Conven. tion date, May 30,1929. Addition to 346,181. [Class 4.] Apparatus for receiving a hose for supplying fuel &c. to aircraft in flight as described in the parent Specification is mounted on the wing of the aircraft and is provided with a loop 4 which can be turned by the pilot forwardly over the receiving fork of the apparatus to facilitate the engagement of the hose therewith. The slot in the apparatus is made forwardly tapering and resilient to grip the hose when in operative position and various forms of valve for the hose end are described. In one valve, Fig. 3, a casing 9 having a cylindrical portion 10 slides over another cylinder 12, connected to the hose, to open ports 13 when the parts are drawn together by engagement of the discs 11, 14 with the receiving apparatus. A spring 18 maintains the parts in their normal position. In a modification, Fig. 4, a casing 20 supports an inner cylinder 22 having ports 21 normally covered by a slide 23. The slide 23 is moved against a spring 26 by a rod 24 connected to a disc 25 engaged by the receiving apparatus. In a further modification, Fig. 5, a disc valve 32 carried by a cylinder 29 is moved against a spring 31 by the engagement of the receiving apparatus with a disc 30.
