Abstract

A binder for use with aggregate for making roads, roofs, seawalls, &c., comprises an intimate mixture of tar or tar-like material, a pitch containing coal dispersed therein as described in Specification 316,897, [Class 22, Cements &c.], and known under the registered Trade Mark "Metrofelt" and a slurry formed from clay and water with or without the addition of lime or chalk. In an example, a binder comprises 45 parts of tar-like material, 15 parts of metrofelt pitch, 3 parts of slaked lime or chalk, 15 parts of powdered clay, and 22 parts of water.
