349,993. Driving-belts. CROFT, F. and CROFT, A., of Crofts, (Engineers), Ltd., Thornbury, Bradford, Yorkshire. Jan. 31, 1930, No. 3278. [Class 80 (i).] A driving-belt for use with expanding pulleys with twin-coned flanges comprises a flexible flat chain a, Figs. 1 and 4, to take the tension, and transverse blocks or tread members b to take the squeezing effect of the pulley and prevent such squeezing acting on any part of the chain. The blocks b are shown as solid members straddling'the chain and carrying friction tread surfaces 2 for engaging the pulley flanges. Each block b is fitted to the chain a by eye-bolts d threaded on a cross pin g which couples together parallel links of the flat chain. The bolts d pass through the block b and are secured by nuts f. In a modification shown in Figs. 7 and 9, the tread blocks b are built up solid with a row of parallel links 12 of the chain and clamped by through bolts 14 in such a way that the squeezing of the pulley flanges does not interfere with the free flexure of the belt as a whole. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 30014/13, (Class 80 (i), Gearing, Belt &c.].
