Abstract
349,721. S o o t blowers. WILSON, A. M., 170, Hope Street, Glasgow. April 12, 1930, No. 11654. [Class 99 (ii).] In a soot blower or tube cleaner of the kind in which steam & c. is adapted to issue through nozzles 6, Fig. 1, in a blower tube 5 disposed between the walls 13, 18 of the boiler, simultaneous rotational and endwise movement of the blower tube is effected by means comprising a nut 25 which engages a screw 26 rotated by a hand-wheel 29. The nut 25 is secured in an extension 23 of the blower tube, and is formed with a pair of projections 30 which engage helical cam-slots 32 in a casing 24 surrounding the said extension. The inlet end of the blower tube is carried by a steam-chest 10, secured to a box 13 built into the boiler wall 14 and having an inlet 11, and the other end is journalled in a bush 16 located in a box 17 built into the opposite wall 18. Steam from the inlet 11 is supplied to the blower tube through ports 20, 22. Each nozzle 6 is preferably formed with a double outlet 41, Fig. 2, so as to generate two diverging jets, and the blower tube may be flattened at the nozzles, Fig. 4, to limit its size and facilitate the removal thereof from the boiler.
