Abstract
434,798. Soot blowers. PARRY, C. P., 106, Bridge Street, Birkenhead. Dec. 5, 1933, No. 34114. [Class 99 (ii)] In a soot blower for a boiler &c. comprising a nozzle N, Fig. 1, which is secured on the end of a barrel A the other end of which is rotatably mounted in a casing B integral with a valve - controlled steam chest B<1>, the blower is located within a housing C disposed between the front E of the main air casing H and the front wall F of the combustion chamber of the boiler and both the housing C and the barrel A are provided with air ports 5, K respectively. The construction is such as to permit passage of air to the nozzle N for cooling the latter when the blower is not in operation, a diaphragm G being located on the blower for dividing the air into two streams, one passing into the nozzle and the other around the exterior thereof. The nozzle is preferably of the kind described in Specification 392,946, and, as shown, the barrel is formed with pressure-reducing portions D<1>, D<2> between the steam valve V and ports K and a pressureincreasing portion D3 between the said ports and the nozzle N. In a modification, Fig. 2, in which the blower is longitudinally movable within a wall box C, cooling air is supplied to the nozzle N from air-pipe connections 8 on the said box.
