Abstract

348,774. Vehicle-wheel bearings. HUGHES, Ltd., G. H. and CRAWSHAW, A. L., St. Stephen's Wheel Works, Birming. ham. March 15, 1930, No. 8357. [Class 12 (i).] A hub, particularly for use on perambulator and like wheels, comprises a barrel 6 formed with outer ball races 6b and flanged portions 6a within which the heads of the spokes 12 project to retain the bearing cones 8a, 8b. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the cone 8a abuts a flange 9a on the axle 9, the cone 8b being positioned by a spring 10 and cotter 11. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the cone 8b is positioned by a distance sleeve 14 having a series of grooves 14a of graded depths to co-operate with the cotter 11. In a further modification, the cone 8b is formed integral with a castellated nut to cooperate with a cotter pin.
