Abstract

348,534. Spring forks. ZEIDLER, C. R., 253, Two Mile Hill Road, Kingswood, Bristol. Feb. 11, 1930, No. 4543. [Class 136 (iii).] A spring fork for pedal cycles comprises an unsprung main fork member, a supplementary fork member mounted on the main fork member by means of three slidable mountings, one at or near each of the lower ends of the fork and a third above the periphery of the wheel, and one or more springs between the main and supplementary fork members, and is characterized in that the lower slidable mountings are disposed wholly below the wheel axle. The main fork member a is provided with a steering-column c, and a supplementary fork member m, adapted to carry the wheel at q, is slidably mounted at or near its ends on the main fork member under the control of a C-spring t secured to the crown b. The lower ends of the supplementary member m are provided with plunger-like extensions r adapted to slide in bored lugs d, which are fitted with packing-glands f and oil cups e for lubricant, a coiled compression spring being interposed between the end of each extension r and the bottom of the cup e. The upper ends of the members m are connected together by a bolt o, on which is pivoted an eyed stud l having a head adapted to slide in a T-sectional slot j in a box h depending from a bracket g, which is mounted between nuts on the threaded end of the steering-column c. A rubber &c. buffer p on the bolt o is adapted to engage the bracket g to limit the extreme upward movement. The C-spring t is looped around and bolted to a cross-bar n between the members m, the bolt hole in the spring being enlarged to permit pivotal movement of the spring.
