Abstract
197,174. Carwardine, G. April 21, 1922. Laminar springs. - The connection between a vehicle spring and the axle or frame comprises a combined swivelling shackle and friction slide, the swivelling movement being limited by stops so that the suspension operates freely for small vibrations while friction is introduced to damp large vibrations. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the end of a cantilever spring 2 rests in a shackle 3 pivoted at 4 to the axle 1 and provided with adjustable stops 6 adapted to contact with members 7, preferably of fibre, carried by a well 5 rigidly connected to the axle and forming a reservoir for lubricant which can pass to the pin 4. The surface of the shackle in contact with the spring 2 is concentric with the pin 4 and a facing 8 of brake-lining &c. preferably interposed between the shackle and spring. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the end of the spring 2 may slide in a slipper 9 pivoted at 10 to the shackle 3.
