Abstract

480,053. Vehicle shock - absorbers. LIBERATORI, U. Feb. 26, 1937, No. 5808. Convention date, June 20, 1936. [Class 108 (iii)] A vehicle shock-absorber comprises a pair of shoes 1 lined with friction material 2 and adapted to be pressed against a drum fixed to the vehicle chassis, by cams 3, the shoes and cams being mounted on a plate 5 forming a relatively-rotatable end closure for the drum and having an arm 7 connected by a link 9 to one of the supporting springs of the vehicle, the cams being operated by arms 13 connected by links 13<1> to a rod 14 operable for example through an adjustable cable 17 by the vehicle driver. The rod is also connected to the link 9 by springs 18, 18<1> which normally maintain the shoes in contact with the drum to damp small shocks but which on the occurrence of heavier shocks are stressed alternately by the relative pivotal movement of the arm 7 and link 9 to increase the pressure of the shoes on the drum. The pivotal connections of the link 9 with the arm 7 and with the member 12 fixed to the supporting spring comprise ball-bearings fitted in the arm 4 or member 12 and enclosed by felt washers housed between two discs.
